How we compare

We evaluated these e-signature providers based on their official, publicly available pricing and feature sets as of October 2026. Our Value Math calculations assume a single standard user sending standard web application envelopes, highlighting limits that are often buried in fair-use policies or acceptable use documentation.

Scoring Rubric (No hands-on testing was conducted):
- Ease (UI and setup): Evaluated based on stated setup requirements and user onboarding documentation.
- Value (Cost-efficiency): Scored inversely to the calculated cost for 20-50 envelopes per month.
- Overall: A weighted average prioritizing transparent pricing for small teams.

Why Look for a DocuSign Alternative?

DocuSign is the industry benchmark, but its pricing structure severely penalizes small businesses that send a high volume of documents.

The DocuSign Benchmark:
- Personal Plan: $11/month (annual commitment billed monthly). Limit: 5 envelopes/month.
- Standard Plan: $30/user/month (annual commitment billed monthly). Limit: 100 envelopes/user/year (approx. 8.3/month).

If your small business needs to send 20 or 50 documents a month, DocuSign’s Standard plan limit of 100 per year means you will quickly exhaust your allowance. Once you cross this hard limit, you must pay excess-envelope charges (which are not publicly priced and can vary), buy pre-paid envelopes, or negotiate a custom higher-tier volume plan. (Do not assume buying additional user seats is the cheapest or correct solution for exceeding envelope limits).

The Value Math: What Does It Actually Cost?

To show the real-world cost, we calculated the monthly expense (comparing Annual vs. Monthly billing) to send 5, 20, and 50 documents per month. These calculations apply to a single user sending one outgoing envelope containing one document via the standard web application (not API or bulk automated sending).

DocuSign:
- 5 Envelopes: $11 (Ann commit, billed Mo, Personal Plan)
- 20 Envelopes: $30 (Ann commit, billed Mo, Standard Plan base fee) + Unknown excess-envelope costs
- 50 Envelopes: $30 (Ann commit, billed Mo, Standard Plan base fee) + Unknown excess-envelope costs

BoldSign:
- 5 Envelopes: $0 (Free, Essentials Plan)
- 20 Envelopes: $0 (Free, Essentials Plan)
- 50 Envelopes: $5 (Ann) / $15 (Mo) (Growth Plan)

SignWell:
- 5 Envelopes: $10 (Ann) / $12 (Mo) (Light Plan)
- 20 Envelopes: $10 (Ann) / $12 (Mo) (Light Plan)
- 50 Envelopes: $10 (Ann) / $12 (Mo) (Light Plan)

Zoho Sign:
- 5 Envelopes: $0 (Free, Free Plan)
- 20 Envelopes: $10 (Ann) / $12 (Mo) (Standard Plan)
- 50 Envelopes: $16 (Ann) / $20 (Mo) (Professional Plan)

Dropbox Sign:
- 5 Envelopes: $15/month regular annual equivalent, or $10.05/month equivalent for eligible first-year introductory annual offer. Monthly checkout price unverified.
- 20 Envelopes: same Essentials subscription pricing; unlimited signature requests.
- 50 Envelopes: same Essentials subscription pricing; unlimited signature requests.

PandaDoc:
- 5 Envelopes: $0 (Free, Free Plan)
- 20 Envelopes: $19 (Ann) / $35 (Mo) (Starter Plan)
- 50 Envelopes: $19 (Ann) / $35 (Mo) (Starter Plan)

Signaturely:
- 5 Envelopes: $20 (Ann) / $25 (Mo) (Personal Plan)
- 20 Envelopes: $40 (Ann) / $50 (Mo) (Business Plan)
- 50 Envelopes: $40 (Ann) / $50 (Mo) (Business Plan)

Important Legal Suitability Warning: Indian IT Act (S.O. 4720(E))

Are electronic signatures legally binding? It depends on the jurisdiction, document type, and signing method. In India, sections 3A and 5 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 provide for reliable electronic signatures specified by the Central Government and recognize an electronic signature when it is affixed in the prescribed manner. Do not assume that every click-to-sign workflow or every e-signature product automatically meets those statutory requirements; the method used, available evidence, the contract, and other applicable laws can matter.

Section 1(4) of the Act excludes specified document categories from the Act’s application, subject to the First Schedule as amended by Gazette notification S.O. 4720(E), dated 26 September 2022. The notification:
1. Created exceptions from the First Schedule exclusion for cheques, Demand Promissory Notes, and Bills of Exchange issued in favour of or endorsed by entities regulated by the RBI, NHB, SEBI, IRDAI, or PFRDA. Other negotiable instruments remain within the exclusion.
2. Retained the exclusion for Powers of Attorney, except those empowering the listed regulated financial entities to act for, on behalf of, and in the name of the person executing them.
3. Omitted the previous First Schedule entry for contracts for the sale or conveyance of immovable property.

Trust deeds and wills (or other testamentary dispositions) remain listed in the First Schedule. These are rules about the IT Act’s application; they do not by themselves resolve enforceability under every other applicable law. Property transactions may separately require prescribed stamping, registration, or other formalities. Confirm that the signing method and transaction meet applicable requirements, and consult Indian counsel for critical or sensitive documents.

Conclusion

When moving beyond DocuSign, your choice comes down to your sending volume and required feature depth. BoldSign currently offers an unbeatable free tier (25 documents/month) for tight budgets. SignWell and Dropbox Sign offer the cleanest, most predictable unlimited-send pricing for solo users, while PandaDoc remains the top choice if you are building an automated sales machine and are willing to pay for its Business tier.
